An exciting workshop geared to the more mature creator and actor. Work with instructors to rehearse an adapted short play, infusing the story with your own creative inspiration. Add a unique perspective on the plot, including original characters and dialogue. Perfect for both actors familiar with the craft and newcomers, this class will explore the foundations of the Atlantic Acting Technique through the lens of short One-Act plays. Participants will explore the complexities of one-acts, developing their skills in “action” and “moment”. Through a collaborative process, they’ll explore the rehearsal process and take direction. As a culmination, participants will rehearse and present a workshop performance of a One-Act. Some memorization is required.

Perfect for the student who is looking to gain experience in front of the camera, this class is a wonderful introduction to on-camera work through an exploration of television and film scenes and monologues. This course is an excellent opportunity to form an ensemble and put on a show of unique one act plays. Participants will work with directing teachers to rehearse one acts, while being introduced to the elements of the Practical Aesthetics technique, created by David Mamet and William H. Macy. The emphasis of this class is on the actor’s creative rehearsal process and collaboration with a director. Actors will experience the casting process, a first read through for the ensemble, and coaching. Students will explore characters through improvisation and theater games. This class will require memorization and culminates in an invited performance of the one acts.

Our Young Actors Conservatory program is an excellent way for actors to develop their skill set, gain experience, and be part of an ensemble. Drawing from the renowned Practical Aesthetics taught at the Atlantic Acting School’s Full-Time Conservatory and NYU-Tisch undergraduate Drama program, this course offers both fresh insights and deeper dives into Scene Study & Technique.
Whether you’re building on previous experience or starting anew, you’ll explore innovative ways to embody characters and tell their stories. Engage in interactive exercises and games that refine your acting skills, connect with your voice, and amplify your creativity. For those opting for the full-day program (11:00am-2:30pm), a musical theater class follows Scene Study, immersing actors in staging, choreography, and vocal arrangements, all with a keen focus on character development.
