This fall we are thrilled to be back in-person for our kids & teens programs! In addition to creating characters and scripts, young artists will have opportunities to produce their own work. Each class has a focus that varies from musical theater to sketch, improv, scene study, film/TV and more, but are all rooted in the Atlantic Technique.

Perfect for the young, aspiring musical theater performer looking to be cast in roles from an adapted musical. Bring the show to life through staging, choreography, and vocal arrangements with an emphasis on character development. A performance will be shared with family and friends.
Mini-Play
Ages 6 – 8
october 4 – december 13, 2022 | Tuesdays, 4 – 5:30pm
No class 11/8
For any young and imaginative performer looking to work with a director and a playwright to create/rehearse a short play. This short play will feature characters inspired by classic and contemporary fairy tales, myths, and legends. Bring your own creative voice to the characters as you prepare for a workshop performance to share with family and friends.
ACTING 101

An excellent introduction to the world of acting, this class will explore character creation and theater games. Participants will explore the rehearsal process, learn to take direction, and build a beginner’s vocabulary in acting.

Acting Workshop

This course explores the Atlantic Acting Technique, which is taught at the Atlantic Acting School’s conservatory and NYU programs. Actors will work on a mini-monologue and a short scene with a focus on developing skills of “action” and “moment,” exploring the rehearsal process, and learning to take direction. Actors will learn fun theater games. This class will rehearse a showcase to share with family and friends.
Comedy 101: Make me laugh!
Ages 9 – 12
September 28 – december 14, 2022 | Wednesdays, 4 – 5:30pm
No class 10/5 or 11/23
This comedy class is dedicated to writing jokes and short stories. Participants will play acting games to warm up and will get specific writing prompts. Over the semester, each actor will build their comedy playbook. The goal will be to make their teacher and fellow comedians laugh! An excellent introduction to what comedy performance is all about.
Performance & Playwriting: Farce & Fantasy

A popular favorite, this class is ideal for the young actor with a vivid imagination and is a wonderful introduction to character work. Actors will each form a unique, original character through fun, engaging games and exercises. From voice, to movement, to character interactions, this class will focus on discovering how to fully embody a role–, a role directly from the mind of the actor! The class will focus on improv and scripted text and will require memorization.
On-Camera Acting 101

Perfect for the student who is looking to gain experience in front of the camera, this class is a wonderful introduction to on-camera work through an exploration of television and film scenes and monologues. The students will begin exploring the nuances of performance as they work on real film and television scripts. The class will require memorization.

Film Performance

Actors will workshop film scenes. Participants can expect to learn fundamentals of the Atlantic Technique, specifically for film auditions and performance. The nuances of performing for the camera will be addressed and students will gain confidence in front of the camera.
Scene Study

October 11 – december 6, 2022 | Tuesdays, 5:45 – 7pm

This class is a wonderful introduction to acting technique work through an exploration of scenes from published theater pieces. The course will cover the basics of the Practical Aesthetics acting technique, taught at Atlantic’s Conservatory and NYU programs, along with improvised games and structured movement exercises. The students will begin exploring the world of acting through storytelling and short scenes using the Practical Aesthetics technique. The class will require memorization.
Improv & Sketch Workshop

OCTOBER 15 – DECEMBER 10, 2022 | Saturdays, 11AM – 12:30PM

Learn classic comedic styles and create a unique sketch comedy showcase using elements of short and long form improvisation. Develop comedic timing and explore the creative process as both a performer and writer. Write new comic scenes and skits to develop a showcase to share with family and friends.
Audition & Monologues

For young actors pursuing a career in film and television, this is a fun and challenging on-camera audition technique class. Actors will be given audition copy, work on cold reads, and learn how to make specific character choices when auditioning.

A rigorous introduction to the Atlantic Acting Technique, Practical Aesthetics, taught at the Atlantic Acting School’s Full- Time Conservatory and NYU-Tisch undergraduate Drama program. Actors will learn to “make the difficult easy, the easy habitual, the habitual beautiful.” The half-day program coursework includes Scene Study & Technique, Voice, and Movement work. The full-day program features includes additional classes over the course of the semester, including which range from Voice, Movement, Improv, Song & Choreography, Casting, and Audition Technique.

Health & Safety
In order to safeguard the health of our entire community, we are requiring all incoming and current students to be fully vaccinated and boosted. Our COVID-19 vaccination policy applies to all Atlantic faculty, staff, and incoming/returning students. Students between the ages of 5-11 must be fully vaccinated, and boosted if eligible. All students and faculty must wear a mask at all times while inside Atlantic spaces except for occasional outdoor time, during intentional, distanced mask-less break moments, and during performance or acting work that allows for safe mask removal. Our facilities have been upgraded to meet and/or exceed air filtration standards as recommended by the CDC.
