Jack Cline
Jack Cline (he/they) is a musician and theatre artist who primarily calls Los Angeles, CA and Boston, MA home. A multi-instrumentalist, music director, teacher, and songwriter, his work seeks to build on the legacies of music as a tool of protest, and asks how artists can hone their craft to achieve personal and collective liberation, transforming the world by transforming themselves (to paraphrase adrienne maree brown). They have contributed original music to productions such as Azure D. Osborne-Lee’s Red Rainbow and The Miracle Project’s Journey to Namuh, and have written two original musicals and an LP to be released soon…hopefully! His academic research currently focuses on the aesthetics of mid-20th century American folk music, and is part of a long-term study of settler colonialism and the American singing voice; he also works as a research assistant for Sarah E. K. Fong’s upcoming book project, The Character of Capitalism. They have music directed and played with companies like Lyric Stage Company of Boston, Central Square Theater, The Umbrella Arts Center, Front Porch Arts Collective, and more, but are so grateful to spend another summer as part of Atlantic’s ensemble of teaching artists.
