Performance & Playwriting (Ages 8 – 12)

Performance & Playwriting (Ages 9-11)

Students will develop an original short play with their director, selecting the style and genre for their piece and contribute to story structure, key plot elements, character and dialogue.  The major focus of this class is for students to develop their play and explore an actor’s creative workshop rehearsal process. Students will perform their original work in an “open rehearsal” format for family and friends.  In the second semester, students will adapt a published play and rehearse for a performance.

Sketch Comedy Workshop  (Ages 9-11)

Students will work on unique short sketches with their teacher. They will incorporate comedic elements as they develop a monologue and short form scene dialogue writing. The major focus of this class is for students to develop their sketch and explore an actor’s creative workshop rehearsal process. Students will perform their original work in an “open rehearsal” format for family and friends.  In the second semester, students will develop a full scale sketch comedy showcase.

Improv Class at Atlantic Acting School in NYC

Improv Workshop (Ages 9-11)

This workshop is designed to free students to develop their creative impulses and strengthen their ability to create a story in the moment. Students will learn the basics of good story telling and repeatable skills that they can apply to both a long or short improvisational show. The class will culminate in a studio workshop performance that includes a demonstration of improv. exercises.

Intro to Musical Theater (Ages 8-10)

This class is an introduction to musical theater performance. Students will be cast in musical numbers from classic and contemporary works of the Broadway stage. Throughout the course of the semester, they will get to experience what it is like to bring a song to life through choreography and vocal arrangements. Students will be an integral part of ensemble numbers, while also having opportunities to learn and perform solo moments. The class culminates in a workshop performance for family and friends.  In the second semester, students will develop a full musical medley showcase.

Musical Theater Workshop (Ages 10-12)

This class is an extension of the musical theater performance class for the more experienced performer. Students will be cast in musical numbers from classic and contemporary works of the Broadway stage. Throughout the course of the semester, they will bring a song to life through choreography and vocal arrangements.  More advanced vocal technique will be introduced.  Music and lyrics will be approached from an acting perspective with an emphasis on staging and character development. The class culminates in a workshop musical revue for family and friends.  In the second semester, students will develop a mini-musical show.
