Conservatory Program
COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS NECESSARY FOR STUDENTS TO REALIZE THEIR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL.  THE ATLANTIC OFFERS A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT PROGRAMS TAILORED TO MEET THE NEEDS AND SCHEDULES OF TODAY'S ACTORS.

The 2.5 Year Conservatory Program

The 2.5 Year Conservatory Program provides students with a solid acting technique combined with professional habits and performance experience.  This intensive program introduces students to professional-level ensemble work and teaches actors how to build a successful career in the theater profession.

The academic Year runs from September to May.  Students will receive approximately 20 hours of instruction per week and are expected to work at least 10 hours each week outside the classroom.

The First Year

The first year provides a solid foundation in Practical Aesthetics.  Students gain a full understanding of the process outlined in A Practical Handbook for the Actor.  Through classes in Script Analysis, Performance Technique, Repetition and Improvisation, students learn how to analyze scripts for playable objectives, develop character through action, work truthfully moment-to-moment as well as make acting fun, personal and accessible and to apply fundamental elements of stagecraft to their acting.  Equally important classes in Voice, Speech and Movement build strength, flexibility, grace, power and expression.

The Second Year

The second year focuses on broadening the application of Practical Aesthetics to work on film and television scripts, Chekhov, comedy, Shakespeare and other classical materials and monologues.  Actors also learn to expand their range by rehearsing challenging contemporary material that requires accents, physical adjustments and commitment to high-stakes situations and characters.  These challenges are supported by the integration of advanced classes in Voice and Speech, and the physical power, awareness and expression that results from classes in Suzuki and Viewpoints.
Students perform in a One-Act play in either the Fall or Spring semester.
